Royal Navy

The Royal Navy has employed Lieutenant Peter Reed as an engineering officer since 2000 and has provided outstanding support to him in his rowing career.

In 1999, Pete Reed took his Fleet Board exams to attend the Britannia Royal Naval College (BRNC) in Dartmouth for officer training. In 2000, as a Sub-Lieutenant engineering officer he carried out tours of duty in Saudi Arabia, the Caribbean and British waters. It was on board HMS Exeter that Pete first used a rowing machine.

Between 2000 and 2005, the Royal Navy supported Pete in his engineering degree and MSc at university and, upon being selected into the GB lead men’s rowing boat, gave Pete their support to allow him to continue rowing and represent his country.

Camelot

Camelot

Camelot, operator of The National Lottery®, is Lead Sponsor of the GB Rowing Team which includes the lead men’s crew, the coxless four, and the women’s quad.

The sponsorship began in May 2005 when both crews competed at Dorney Lake, near Windsor, in the first World Cup held in the UK for almost 20 years.

The agreement between Camelot and the Amateur Rowing Association (ARA) is scheduled to last through four seasons from 2005 - including the Beijing Olympiad - and concludes in January 2009, when Camelot’s current licence to operate The National Lottery expires.

Camelot has a rich history of sponsoring elite rowing in the UK. A four-year personal sponsorship of former coxless pair Sir Matthew Pinsent and James Cracknell from 2000 evolved into a sponsorship of the gold medal –winning coxless four in Athens in 2004.

"I am delighted that Camelot is continuing its excellent relationship with rowing. We are committed to helping ensure that rowing once again wins Olympic Gold by supporting the two lead crews for the next four seasons in the lead-up to Beijing. A big part of Camelot’s job is creating winners – I hope we can play our part in supporting these athletes as they become World and Olympic champions."
Dianne Thompson, Camelot Chief Executive
