Silver 2010

I am as disappointed with another silver medal as anyone would expect. It hurts even more now than it did during the race. Now that’s clear there are a few other things to write.

I’m very proud of our final yesterday. We are a great crew and feel that we can hold our heads high after putting together a top performance. For me (and for Andy too) this 2010 project was never about ‘getting revenge’ on the kiwi crew after 2009. It was about getting the most out of ourselves in training everyday with the motivation of chasing down a faster crew and making the most out of 2010 in the build up to 2012. Jürgen’s training programme is not weekly, monthly or even annually. It is a four-year building project that evolves as we move on which fills us with confidence for a golden 2012. We will never take our eye off that until our boat has literally passed the finish line.

A bit for the kiwis: well done guys, you deserve the win.

A bit for the Greeks (European Champions): Great race guys.  As always.

And a bit for us: We put together a race that we knew we had inside us. The race has been playing over in my head for the last few hours and I don’t quite know what I would change to make the difference. Seeing as that’s the case, I know we did everything. Everything that we could control, we did as well as could be done and the things that we couldn’t control, we handled with consideration and professionalism.

Thank you, to everyone, for the continued support. Especially to my family who are simply cool people and to the Royal Navy for keeping me in full time training. I’m grateful everyday.
