Racing Season 2010

It has been a little while since I put my thoughts down on here. I’ve poured all my motivation and attention into the racing season, which is now underway.

With the first World Cup in Bled, Slovenia behind us I can safely say that this years men’s coxless pair has encountered more than it’s fair share of punditry from the media.

I merely want to say that we really enjoy our rowing at the moment. Collecting silvers is tough going, but we are determined and motivated and can see very positive reasons to stay in the pair. We still have a lot of enthusiasm and drive to push ourselves on through the tough programme. It is making us better athletes for the future and will be very valuable experience when the Olympic Games roll around in the not too distant future.

In 2012, all of the events will be tough, and it will be very useful to have the memory of this time in the front of our minds to drive us on in tough times. It doesn’t matter who the opposition are.

I’m pleased with how Hodge and I have been handling our racing and training and I honestly don’t think we have shown our full potential yet. It will be a fun journey to get there.

Thanks for the support from many of you. We do appreciate it and it makes a difference.

Finally, a note about the M8+ final race at the end of Sunday’s racing: it was a bonus race for me after Tom Wilkinson picked up a minor injury the night before. Jürgen asked me after our pairs final if I would sub into the 7 seat and I had 90 minutes to prepare. It was a big physical effort, but a lot of fun. The 8s group is full of guys with enormous strength and conviction and I’m sure we’ll see more from them as the season goes on.
