| Final Trials Report |
|
After a long two week training camp in Varese, Italy and a short trip to Belgium for the final trials I am so happy to be at home again. It always feels like a long time away over the trials period. There is an obvious tension in the team that only happens when we have to race each other and it's nice to have that behind me.
The final trials of the year is the last opportunity for us athletes to show what we’re made of and to establish a rank order for Jürgen to work with. After this we will be getting selected into various crews for the international season ahead. It’s great to have it all done now and I’m really proud of our efforts again. It was my 6th consecutive final trials win . 5 with Hodgey and 1 last year with Alex Gregory (when Hodge opted to race the single).
There is always added pressure around this big race in the season, but we were relaxed and confident going into the event. The competition was good, but we had big faith in what we were capable of and that was the foundation for one of the best trials performances we have put together.
What happens now is down to Jürgen. Everyone is asking me whether it’s the pair or the four – but I don’t know. I do trust his decision as no one could question his selection experience. What will be interesting to see is if this long international season leaves room some changing around in boat classes. With the World Championships in November there are lots of possibilities to consider right now.
Finally, I’d like to say thank you to Peter Spurrier for the photographs from trials.
