An early summer, Jan 2009
I’m writing this blog on my laptop looking out over one of the most spectacular natural landscapes I have even seen. I’m in Stellenbosch, South Africa.

I have a view of vineyards stretching into the distance, the sun is setting to the west and there’s not a cloud in the blue sky. In the distance there are scores of rocky mountains and the air is cool and fresh. Each day, the summer sun shines high in the sky and we get to enjoy 30 degrees C. It really is nice here.

At the moment, I’m absolutely shattered from the 3 sessions of bike riding, ergos and weights we’ve been doing each day – but with the chance to swim in the evening, the best food I’ve had on a training camp and a great team around I can’t believe how lucky I am. All the guys feel the same way: we’re having a good time and enjoying getting fit.

it’s quite boring to write that everything is going well, but I’m sure there will be plenty of interesting posts in the coming weeks with the challenges of senior trials, ergo tests, illness and winter blues likely to be on the horizon.
