In one year’s time, it’ll all be over. We’ll know if this work has all been worth it. Not weeks or months, but years.
But for now, we need to concentrate on this season. The open weight men’s squad from the GB rowing team are in Portugal for the last part of our 2011 World Championship campaign preparation. This Worlds (Bled, Slovenia) is especially important because it is the first (and best) chance to qualify the boat for the Olympic Games next year. Competition is tight in the men’s pair event and we never forget that – not for a single stroke. There is a lot to do and there’s a lot getting done.
It’s a beautiful venue here. The hotel is a custom built rowing location with extra long beds, extra tall showers and enough food to feed a battalion. The lake is long enough to get a session finished with only one turn and the weather is, well, hotter than Silvretta.
Sometimes, I can’t believe how lucky we are to be doing this full time. I love my job.
