| 4 May 2011. Selection |
|
Hi everyone, I’ve been putting messages out on Twitter (@PeteReed2012) about what an interesting time it is to be in the GB Rowing Team – I wasn’t lying, but I have a problem and that is that I am very limited about what I can disclose about selection.
Two weeks ago, on Sunday 17th April, the whole team + invited athletes raced at Dorney Lake in our final set of public trials. Here is a picture. It’s a massive test to race your team mates – the atmosphere around this crucial selection time is always noticeably more tense. Hodge and I have both won the final trial 7 times now – 6 times together. It’s great to have it out of the way, but definitely worth noting that TJ and Alex Gregory were leading the race until we pushed past them in the last 500m. The rest of the team weren’t too far behind. It shows a solid strength in depth that Jürgen is happy about. Check out Peter Spurrier’s photos for a look at the finish. Since then, racing, boat formulation, team strategy and solid training have been keeping us all busy and it really is an exciting time to be a rower. That, regrettably, is all I can tell you about it for the moment. There is a planned press conference at Caversham on 11 May about the fun stuff. This marks the end of the winter training and the start of the summer racing. Bring on 2011. |
