I’m sitting in my hotel room and looking over the course here in Bled. It is absolutely stunning . The 2000m (plus a bit) natural lake is surrounded tree-covered hills, which are again surrounded by the mountainous Triglav national park.

There is a small island on the lake at 500m to go, which is the home to a beautiful church. The castle overlooks the course from high up on a looming cliff face. The town is filled with vibrant locals and passionate rowers. If you haven’t been here before, you have less than a week to come out for a holiday and see this beautiful place in it’s best light… and you can support the GB Rowing Team while you’re at it.

The regatta has started. The pair’s heat was yesterday and it was a relief to actually start racing. I’ve been looking forward to getting out on the start line. We had a good first race with no fireworks and now we go back into training to prepare for the semi final on Friday (2nd Sep) with the Final on Saturday (3rd Sep).

There is a good atmosphere around the whole GB Rowing Team. There is a lot of talent around the dinner table in our hotel and I wish the GB crews the very best of luck.

We’re relaxed, focussed and ready.
