A few days into the Silvretta camp, my favourite camp of the year. It's a small town... not even a town... a small collection of buildings next to a lake in the heart of the Austrian Alps.
We live in log cabins, eat our breakfast and dinner at the posh hotel and lunch at the only café that overlooks the lake. We have a gym that Rocky would be proud of but that Kate Moss' dog might turn his nose up at and we have a garage to do our ergos in (there is also a snow plough amongst other odds and sods in there). A lot of miles get covered on this camp. A lot of pain. A lot of sweat.
The reason I like it so much is that it feels like the purest and most simple parts of the sport are what matter most up here. The air is fresh, the surrounding moutains are captivating and everything is basic. No distractions, one job. |
