When did you start rowing?

In 2001 in my second year at university when I was 21.

Who are your sporting heroes?

Obviously Sirs Steve Redgrave and Matthew Pinsent, but also Sir Ranulph Fiennes, Dame Ellen MacArthur and Jane Tomlinson. Anyone who combines extreme physical and mental endurance.

How much do you eat and do you have a special diet?

About 6,000 calories a day, although more on training camp.  We have a nutritionist available to us for dietary advice but we just generally try to eat often and  healthily and avoid alcohol.

How often do you train?

3 times per day, 7 days per week. We have one day off every month or so.

How much do you sleep?

On average about 10 hours per day - i'm usually so tired that getting to sleep is rarely a problem!

Who are your sponsors?

The lead GB boat, which is currently the coxless four, is sponsored by Camelot, our watches are supplied by Omega and our sunglasses by Bolle. The Royal Navy have kindly allowed me a period of extended leave to row for Great Britain.

Who is your coach?

Jurgen Grobler OBE is the Head Coach of the GB men's rowing squad. He has coached a crew to a gold medal at every Olympics from 1972 to date.

Where are you from? 

After a brief spell living in Seattle until I  was about  3 years old, I grew up in Nailsworth, Gloucestershire. My parents still live there and I go back home as often as I can.

Which club do you row for?

I row for Leander Club in Henley-on-Thames.
